I'm currently at the 60 - 70 hour mark and have to say they have really started to improve in the last 10 or so hours. AudioQuest NightOwl Carbon Headphones 2015 marked an exceptional leap for AudioQuest and brought an entirely new element to their impressive catalogue. Audioquest recommend 150 hours which seems like a lot. I've always been sceptical about burn in but the nightowls have really opened me up to it. There’s something odd going on in the mid-bass for sure, as it’s kind of muddy and gets in the way of the mid-range which kind of drops off a cliff if we’re being honest. ![]() This sounds good in theory, but it just doesn’t measure up. Audeze LCD-5 (bass boosted) Audioquest NightOwl Carbon Airpods MAX Mac Studio w/Roon > Holo Audio Titanis USB > Supra Excalibur USB Cable > Chord M Scaler > Hugo TT2 Chord Mojo 2. I look at statements about the SS being created by one design versus the other as being "noticeably better" as being an individually subjective. ![]() Which ones youre running will have an effect on how 'dark' they sound, though all options are dark sounding compared to the tuning of many audiophile headphones. ![]() Use Hifi Shark to monitor pricing and global availability. The OG Nighthawk shipped with different earpads than the Nighthawk Carbon and Nightowl. I'm pretty sure I know what open as opposed to closed backed headphones are doing to handle the sound differently specific to how much of the frequency spectrum response is (normally) allowed to resonate in either design.
